It seems that the respite of rain and favourable weather is only a short-lived reprieve in Australia’s on-going carnage and the country’s woes don’t seem likely to lessen as emergency services are preparing for a spike in temperatures over coming days. The Australian bushfires are still a matter for grave concern as there are fires burning on either side of the NSW and Victorian borders. In areas where fires have gone out, it’s the smoke haze that is also a cause for worry where cities like Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra will be affected.
The Australian bushfires have indeed been the worst the country has ever seen and besides human lives and property, almost half a billion animals will be dead, starving or displaced. Tragic scenes have unfolded on our screens as the internet displayed heart-breaking pictures too intense for anyone to bear. Kangaroo Island received an evacuation alert on 8.1.20 amid fears of a blaze alert. Environmentalists have grave concerns for the future of endangered wildlife on Kangaroo Island where the fires have already killed thousands of koalas and destroyed 155,000 hectares of land, about one-third of the island’s entire area.
