The natural world can be amazing and even more so if you happen to stumble upon wildlife silently. Animals aren’t as dangerous as they appear to be when left on their own. Within the confines of their own natural surroundings, animals can behave impeccably. When it comes to animal babies, one photographer found they could be a joy to observe; they play and frolic around just like human kids do. A Physical Education teacher Valterri Mulkahainen from Sotkamo Finland who devotes his time to nature photography got the nicest surprise when he stumbled upon a magical moment unfolding in the Finnish Taiga surroundings of Martinselkonen, a small town in Finland. He actually saw baby bears dancing and playing much like children.
Valterri was as usual shooting photographs in and around Martinselkonen on 3rd of June 2013 when he noticed a bear in the clearing with its small cubs. Speaking to media, he said that the bears behaved like children. The baby bears dancing were a magical sight.
Valterri said “They were playing, and even started a few friendly fights. I felt like I was on a playground in front of my house, where small children frolic around. That’s how much they reminded me of little children. At one point, the three of them got up on their hind legs and started pushing each other. It was like they were dancing in a circle.”
Valterri was observing the baby bears dancing from a shelter around 50 meters away and was taken aback by the adorable scene unfolding before his very eyes. He had the perfect view and photographed the cubs all evening and the whole of the night.
In Finland, it is easy to bump into a bear anywhere except the Aland Islands. Most bears are found in the eastern part of the country including Lapland. However in the south and west, people rarely get to see them at all.
Bears are agile creatures and strong too. They use their forelegs majorly to get what they want such as hunting and getting around. Bears are also excellent swimmers and climbers, thus they are a complete package.
Bears usually avoid humans and it is fascinating that Valterri was lucky enough to be treated to such a spectacular spontaneous scene. If they spot humans, they run away instantly which is why for Valterri this was like some Midsummer Night’s Dream? Valterri was enamored by the scene unfolding of the cubs at play dancing merrily that he took several photographs as you can see here.
